Zakharova, in response to sanctions against the ICC, called US law decadent arthouse
The US House of Representatives has approved a bill on the possibility of introducing sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The initiative was supported by 247 congressmen. Another 155 US lawmakers opposed it.
In response to this, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called US law decadent arthouse.

Document approved due to Netanyahu’s arrest warrant
On the morning of June 4, the US Congress Procedure Committee approved the document due to a request for an arrest warrant for members of the Israeli government and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The bill implied the denial of visas, blocking of assets and real estate transactions in the United States in relation to ICC employees. These measures are expected to be imposed if the ICC attempts to facilitate the “investigation, arrest, detention or prosecution of any person under the protection of the United States and its allies.”
As House Speaker Mike Johnson noted, it is important to send a signal to the international community that “ICC abuses cannot be allowed to continue.”
At the same time, the head of the US State Department press service, Matthew Miller, stated that the administration of President Joe Biden does not support the imposition of sanctions against the ICC.

Netanyahu was suspected of war crimes
On May 20, ICC prosecutor Ahmad Khan requested the issuance of an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as the country’s Defense Minister Yoav Galant.
The court finds that they may be held responsible for war crimes of the Defense Forces (IDF) during the fighting in the Gaza Strip and crimes against humanity since at least October 8, 2023, among which appears the use of civilian starvation as a method of warfare.
ICC prosecutors said they had evidence that included interviews with survivors and eyewitnesses, audio, video and photographs, satellite imagery, and statements from alleged perpetrators. The text indicates that the listed crimes, according to the ICC, continue to this day. For them, Netanyahu and Galant, the prosecutor notes, should be held criminally liable.
In addition, the ICC issued arrest warrants for three leaders of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas.
Israel, like all states, has the right to take measures to protect its population. However, this right does not relieve Israel or any other state from the obligation to respect international humanitarian law

Russia reacted to the approval of the bill on sanctions against the ICC
The official Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the approval of the bill on sanctions against the ICC, said that American law is a decadent arthouse.
There is Roman law, there is common law. And there is American law – decadent arthouse, turning into liberal postmodern bipolarity
Netanyahu himself drew a parallel between the ICC prosecutor’s requests for arrest warrants against former US President Franklin Roosevelt and former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitler.
According to the Israeli Prime Minister, these accusations are outrageous and create a dangerous “false symmetry.”
