The United States government said on Monday (8) that China is allowing anti-Semitic content to grow on the country's internet, which is heavily controlled by the communist regime led by dictator Xi Jinping.
According to the American deputy representative for combating anti-Semitism, Aaron Keyak, the Chinese internet underwent a drastic change after the start of the war between Israel and Hamas terrorists, in October 2023.
“What we saw after October 7th was a drastic change in social media within China. Anti-Semitism has become more rampant, more free,” Keyak told the American newspaper
The Washington Post.
“As we know that the Chinese internet is not free, this is a conscious decision by the Chinese government to allow this type of rhetoric to escalate greatly,” he added.
Keyak said the rise of anti-Semitism in China was not a mere accident, but a “tsunami of anti-Semitic rhetoric that was allowed to spread on social media” in the Asian country. He said it poses a “threat to the security of Jews around the world,” especially those living in Asia.
According to information from the Israeli newspaper The Times of Israelthe Chinese regime denied that it promotes or allows anti-Semitism on its internet, and accused the US of “interfering in its internal affairs”.
