Adolfo Urso returns to talk about electrical transition of mobility in Europe. On the eve of the elections for the renewal of the European Parliament, the Italian Minister of Business and Made in Italy hopes for a change of approach to the topic at a continental level: “The electric transition of cars it cannot and must not be a dogma. It was, it certainly was in this European legislature, it was for this EU Commission, but it cannot be so in the future. And I am sure that it will no longer be the case with the new Parliament and the new Commission”.
Electric transition, no dogmas
The minister is convinced that the new composition of the two European bodies mentioned above can therefore give a turning point to the way of thinking and interpreting the electric transition of cars. “The new European Parliament and the new European Commission will be more aware of the fact that it is necessary to reconcile environmental sustainability with social and productive sustainability in a strategic sector of the Italian European economy which we absolutely do not want and cannot give up, also because we have an extraordinary automotive supply chain in our country which is an pride of Made in Italy, excellence on a global level”the words of Urso pronounced at the 2024 Automotive Business Summit of Sole 24 Ore and Radio 24 and reported by Ansa.
Ecobonus theme
Urso himself then focused on the so-called Ecobonus 2024the new incentive system which immediately caused a stir since in 9 hours the funds intended for subsidies for electric cars, over 200 million euros, were exhausted. “This success makes us reflect on the further measures we must adopt after this incentive plan to meet the needs of our families and to make the air healthier – commented – Most of the requests for ecobonuses, especially regarding electric cars, have passed through dealers, to which private customers turned, some also through car rental companies. In just a few hours, the entire allocation of resources, although very significant, of over 200 million euros, intended precisely for the purchase of electric cars, was exhausted.”
Urso on the comparison with Stellantis
Final line on the relationship with Stellantisto which the theme of Italian automotive production is linked: “With Stellantis we have started a discussion to restore centrality to Italy in the group’s strategy and also to mitigate the effects, especially on employment, of the transition from ICE to EV platforms, which will however take place in a more gradual manner thanks to the success we have achieved in the removal of the Euro 7 obstacle. The outcome of this confrontation, at times even close, as it should be, but nevertheless transparent and responsible, also led to the recent revision of the industrial plan, announced last week by Tavares, in which Stellantis made a commitment to the government and the unions, and therefore to Italy, to reach the goal of one million vehicles produced in Italian factories. We must manage this transition together, in the awareness that the car must once again become a driving force in Italian industry“.
