This Tuesday an unprecedented event took place in the student community in Mexico: andl University Electoral Drillan initiative that brought together thousands of young people, teachers and university workers from the main educational institutions in the country.
With an eye on the June 2 presidential electionthis democratic exercise became a crucial thermometer to measure student preferences.
The call exceeded all expectations by mobilizing more than 300 thousand university students, mainly young peoplefrom institutions such as UNAM, IPN, UAM, UPN, UdG, BUAP, UANL, UAEMEX, among others.
This extraordinary event It was carried out in the 32 states of the countryreflecting the diversity and breadth of student participation.
According to the results collected by the University Electoral Council, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, candidate of the Let’s Keep Making History alliance, won 65 percent of the votes; followed by Jorge Álvarez Máynez of Movimiento Ciudadano, with 22.2 percent.
Xóchitl Gálvez Ruíz, from the Fuerza y Corazón por México alliance, obtained only 7.7 percent of the votes. There were 5.2% null votes.
These results, which reflect overwhelming support for Sheinbaum’s candidacy, coincide with the trends observed in polls throughout the electoral process.
The drill took place in more than 400 higher and secondary education schools, with the opening of polling stations from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
The counts were carried out in front of the university communities, even broadcasting live through social networks to guarantee the transparency and legitimacy of the results.
The call for this simulation was spread mainly through social networks, where students expressed their interest in actively participating in the democratic exercise and learning about the electoral process up close.
