Mexico. Tijuana native Lupita Jones bets on the Universal Mexican beauty pageant and wants it to evolve, but does not change its position regarding the rejection of trans women in said event.
While in other beauty pageants the inclusion of trans women has been allowed to participate, Lupita Jones does not agree that the same thing happens in Universal Mexican, since you want to keep it without diversity.
Speaking to journalists in CDMX, Jones, originally from Tijuana and 54 years old, named Miss Universe 1991, maintains her position:
“We have received some girls who are mothers, they have been participating in state events… I am very happy that it evolves, in such a way that the life decisions that a woman has made do not limit her to get closer to her goals.”
For several years, various countries, such as Canada and Spain, opened their requirements so that women who have made their transition can enter their local contests, but Lupita does not approve of the same thing happening in Mexico.
For this reason, Lupita Jones has been accused of transphobia due to other comments she has made. “That is an issue that I have already talked about a lot and we are still on the same ones,” she reiterates her position.
