The support package of around 60 billion dollars is extremely critical for Ukraine, whose situation at the front has become difficult.
Stateside the upper house of the congress, i.e. the senate, approved a support package worth billions of dollars for Ukraine early on Wednesday Finnish time.
The package passed in the Senate with clear numbers, reports the news agency Reuters.
The Senate has a total of one hundred representatives. Reuters reported at around half past five in the morning Finnish time, while the vote was still underway, that 75 senators support the package and 17 oppose it.
The U.S. House of Representatives finally approved a $60 billion aid package for Ukraine on Saturday. The package had been stuck in Congress since last fall after right-wing Republicans opposed it.
The Democrat-controlled Senate had also approved a previous package that included aid to Ukraine, and was not expected to oppose this one either. The president still needs the package Joe Biden the signature.
Biden announced shortly after the Senate vote was announced that he would sign the package on Wednesday.
for Ukraine the acceptance of support is extremely critical. The United States has clearly been Ukraine's most important armed supporter when the country has defended itself against Russian aggression.
After the end of US support, Ukraine has suffered from a severe shortage of ammunition in recent months, and the situation at the front has become dire. The efforts of European countries to increase their own support are not enough to fill the gap left by the US.
