United States, inflation at 2.8% in July
The consumer price index (CPI) in the United States stood at 2.9% on an annual basis in July, implying a slowdown of one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous reading and its lowest reading since March 2021, it reported on Wednesday. from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The underlying index, which excludes from the I calculate food and energy prices due to their greater volatility, closed the seventh month of 2024 with an increase of 3.2%, a tenth less and the lowest figure since April 2021. food prices increased by 2.2% on an annual basis, while the energy prices were 1.1% more expensive in July than twelve months earlier.
On a monthly basis, the index’s headline rate rose 0.2% from a 0.1% decline in June, while the core rate rebounded a tenth of a point to 0.2%.
