A new case of shark sighting was presented in the last hours in the North American country. Since June 30 of this year, five attacks by these animals have been recorded on the beaches of New York.
The state authorities are attentive to this type of encounter. The most recent was a great white shark found in the Quogue beach resort on Long Island..

A man who was walking by the place, noticed the presence of the animal and alerted the police. Before they arrived, he managed to take photos of the injured fish.
In the images you can see the injured shark, face up and with its teeth out. According to the first investigations, it was almost three meters tall. This length is unusual for these species, so it is believed to have been between six and eleven years old.
The animal was found on the shores of the Ocean Beaches, along Dune Road, in Quogue. Before the authorities arrived, the body disappeared back into the sea due to strong waves.
Now the experts are looking for the shark’s body to perform a necropsy and find out the causes of its death. The Quogue Village Police Department has launched a search for the remains and is asking for help from residents.
This is the third dead shark to appear off the coast of New York. A few days ago, tourists found one in the Rockaways and then another in Jones Beach.
The state administration is concerned about the attacks and appearances of these animals. Aquatic species expert Greg Metzger of the South Fork Museum of Natural History gave a reassuring note for people alarmed by the encounters.
“Great white sharks here on Long Island only eat small fish. The negative interactions they have had with some are probably because they are looking for a food source. These sharks don’t eat people,” explained Metzger for ‘CBS New York’.

The plan of the authorities
Given the increase in cases and attacks in recent hours, New York Governor Kathy Hochul created a program to help prevent bites and at the same time protect animals.
One of the measures is to increase the number of lifeguards working on the state’s beaches. Hochul proposed that they double the number of lifeguards on all coasts, that is, that they go from two to four people per shift.
The police announced that they will acquire new tools, such as drones, to patrol and monitor the beaches for possible sharks. In addition, until a few days ago, only six kilometers of sea were supervised. With this new program they will become 17.
According to data from the Florida Museum of Natural History, in 2021 the United States recorded an increase in unprovoked shark bites. That year there were 47 cases, compared to 33 in 2020.
