United States A police troika involved in George Floyd’s arrest committed a violation of civil rights

Stateside legal has stated three former police officers committed a federal crime in an arrest situation that resulted George Floydin to death.

Trio Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng mixed Thomas Lane followed from the sidelines when the fourth police officer Derek Chauvin killed an African-American Floyd in Minneapolis in May 2020 by pressing his knee over his neck for more than nine minutes.

A police troika was charged with involvement in Floyd’s death.

At the end of the trial, which lasted nearly five weeks, the jury ruled that the police officers who witnessed the arrest violated Floyd’s civil rights by depriving him of medical care, even though Floyd clearly needed it and provided it was lawful for the police to provide medical care. Two of the police officers, Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng, were also found guilty of not interfering in the actions and unjustified use of force by their colleague Chauvin.

Kueng and Lane had only started as police officers six months before the arrest. Thao had an eight-year career behind him.

Although the jury found the police troika guilty, it is not yet known when the men will fall to the length of their sentence. The maximum statutory sentence is life imprisonment, but such a long sentence is considered unlikely in the U.S. media.

Thursday’s decision only concerns a lawsuit pending at the federal level, so the troika now accused is still facing a lawsuit filed by the state of Minnesota.

“Today’s verdict identifies two police officers violating the constitution by failing to intervene and prevent another police officer from killing George Floyd,” commented the U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland judgment in the court notice.

“Three police officers broke the constitution by failing to help Floyd and prevent this death. George Floyd should still be alive. ”

According to Garland, the Department of Justice will continue to hold accountable those authorities who, by their actions or lack thereof, violate their constitutional duty to protect the rights of U.S. citizens.

Derek Chauvin received his first conviction in state court in June 2021, when he had already been convicted in the spring of all the crimes with which he was charged. Chauvin was charged with, among other things, second- and third-degree murders, which in the Finnish legal system would be roughly equivalent to murder and the death penalty.

Chauvin was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison, but he appealed in the fall.

Federal in a lawsuit Chauvin pleaded guilty to depriving Floyd of his constitutional rights and admitted that his absurd behavior resulted in Floyd’s death.

Floyd’s death sparked a widespread wave of protest against racism and police violence in the U.S. in early summer 2020. The demonstrations were also spreading around the world.
