The guard of the national park had noticed a lonely car parked in a popular vantage point. The same car was in place three days later, after which the search began.
A “fuel out” message was found in a car belonging to a 67-year-old man in California. Visitors to the national park found the man’s body on Tuesday about four miles from the car.
The man had apparently sought help and got right on the side of the highway, but because of the terrain and vegetation, his body was difficult to spot.
The last time a man was met while driving off-road was at the end of May, when he mentioned to a park ranger about running out of fuel. However, the man had not been reported missing.
Death Valley is located in the United States on the border of the states of California and Nevada. It is the driest, hottest and lowest sea level in the United States. Temperatures in the valley can rise close to 50 degrees Celsius.
Due to the heat, visitors to Death Valley are instructed to stay in their vehicles and wait for help.
Tourists disappear into the valley from time to time. Last, in early June, another Californian was found dead. In May, a man who has still not been found disappeared into the desert.
In several U.S. cities have seen heat records in the summer. As much as June 15th in sixteen cities the date heat record was broken or reached levels with the previous record.
Due to the heat and wind, there is an increased risk of forest fires in the southwestern United States. The fires have occurred, particularly in Arizona and New Mexico, where two of the worst wildfires in the state’s history have erupted this summer.
