Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel, who is leaving the team at the end of the season, has begun preliminary negotiations with Manchester United, according to what was confirmed by the sports magazine Kicker.
The magazine stated in its report that James Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United, inquired about the possibility of contracting with Tuchel, once the dismissal of current coach Eric ten Hag was decided upon.
But Thomas Tuchel currently wants to focus on the German team’s remaining matches this season.
Tuchel will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the current season, after the team exited under his leadership in the second round of the German Cup, and lost its dominance of the league title at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen. The last hope for winning the title this season remains the Champions League, where it will face Real Madrid in the semi-finals.
Tuchel confirmed that he would not change his decision to leave, while the German club did not find a replacement for him.
Tuchel said: “I have an agreement with the club, and I informed it to the administration, and we are in the process of putting the final touches to complete it.”
In England, Ten Hag disappointed expectations in Manchester United, with the team falling to seventh place in the English Premier League table, and became threatened with not qualifying for the Champions League next season.
