The traffic light parties’ new infection protection law to combat the corona pandemic has been passed. The Union is already calling for improvements.
Munich – The devastating fourth wave of the Corona * pandemic is rolling over Germany and now brought new measures with it. For example, the traffic light parties’ new infection protection law was passed in the Bundestag on Thursday and approved by the Bundesrat on Friday. The new catalog of measures should take effect after the epidemic situation of national scope expires on November 25th.
It seems, however, that the discussion about the new law will not subside anytime soon, despite the established resolution. The Union is already calling for changes and improvements to the traffic light infection protection law.
Corona Infection Protection Act: Union politicians want tightening – “no legal dispute”
Immediately after the new law was passed, Hesse’s Prime Minister Volker Bouffier (CDU *) spoke out in favor of tightening the corona protective measures. “The new traffic light coalition must have the sovereignty to change the things that we have to change,” Bouffier told the Editorial network Germany with a view to the planned coalition of the SPD, Greens and FDP in the federal government. In the fight against the corona pandemic, “quick and clear options for action” are needed.
Instead, “the lawyers are already arguing about what is possible and what is not,” criticized the CDU politician and warned against a legal dispute. “In an emergency we can afford anything, just not weeks of legal disputes,” it said. In addition, Bouffier called for faster government action: “You cannot solve the thousand questions that arise every day in a pandemic in a parliament.” That is why it needs “freedom of movement for the executive”. Solutions would have to be found “that enable us to act appropriately, quickly and, above all, efficiently,” said Bouffier.
The new Infection Protection Act aims, among other things, to make decisions to combat corona no longer by ordinance, but in the federal and state parliaments. With his demand for improvements, Bouffier refers to the commitment of the traffic light parties to put the Infection Protection Act to the test as early as December.
Corona escalation: Dobrindt criticizes the new Infection Protection Act – “ideologically driven”
From the point of view of the CSU regional group leader Alexander Dobrindt *, the measures provided for in the new law must be expanded in just a few weeks. The Union politician referred in an interview with Focus Online on the dramatic corona situation in Germany: “We are in the middle of the fourth wave and are currently experiencing an exploding infection process that has never happened in the past to the same extent.”
The intensive care beds would fill up and the third vaccination still had to gain momentum, said Dobrindt. “And at this time, Left-Yellow comes up with the idea of restricting the toolbox against Corona,” said the CSU politician. He has no understanding for this “ideologically driven” policy. Dobrindt described the idea of a Freedom Day as a “false idea of freedom” and targeted the future traffic light coalition. Its first government attempt will be the “stress test for our health system”.
Corona crisis: CSU politician Dobrindt makes gloomy forecast for traffic lights – “failure becomes clear”
The new catalog of measures is a “clear minus” compared to what was available due to the epidemic situation, emphasized Dobrindt. In a few weeks, the newly adopted instrument box may no longer be sufficient “if the number of infections, the hospitalization rate and the occupancy of the intensive care beds continue to rise”.
When asked, Dobrindt specified why the Union is positioning itself against the new law. Essential elements would therefore be missing. “The possibility of far-reaching contact restrictions, also in the area of gastronomy, clubs and schools. Such emergency measures can no longer be implemented across the board with the new law, ”he explained. According to the CSU regional group leader, a new session on the law in the Bundestag will therefore be necessary.
“Unfortunately, we will have to discuss this law again in the German Bundestag,” said Dobrindt. At this point he also spoke of a possible failure of the traffic light coalition made up of the SPD, FDP and the Greens: “Because in a few weeks the failure of the traffic light will be obvious.” With the evaluation of the Infection Protection Act planned for December 9th, SPD candidate Olaf shows Scholz * that he himself does not believe that he can fight the pandemic effectively.
Corona: Dobrindt doubts the legal security of the traffic light law – supports partial vaccination
Dobrindt also warned that it was to be expected that new legal measures applied after the epidemic situation had ceased would be challenged in court. “Legal security has become less due to the traffic light approach,” criticized the CSU politician.
Dobrindt also welcomed the decision of the federal-state summit on compulsory vaccination for nursing professions. In view of the low vaccination rates, this was the right decision: “It is good that compulsory vaccination is now provided for in patient and care-related professions.”
When it comes to a general vaccination requirement, however, he is more cautious because there is a lack of “social acceptance”. Nevertheless, he has little understanding for vaccine opponents. They would bear “partial responsibility” for the high damage caused by the pandemic, as they refuse to be vaccinated. (bb with material from afp) * Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
