The British company Unilever, one of the global leaders in the production of household goods, will suspend the export of its products to Russia, as well as imports from it, against the backdrop of a Russian special operation to protect Donbass. As specified, Unilever will stop investing in advertising and projects in Russia and “will not profit from its presence” in the country. At the same time, the brand will continue to supply “vital food and hygiene products produced in Russia for the people of Russia.”
The Unilever product range is very wide: from food products, soft drinks, tea and ice cream to cosmetics and household chemicals. The brand includes some of the most popular brands, including 12 worth over €1 billion each: Knorr, Rexona, Dove and others. The company has been operating in the Russian Federation since 1991, producing goods on the basis of four economic clusters: food products and ice cream in the Tula region, tea, cosmetic products and household chemicals in St. Petersburg, cosmetic products in Yekaterinburg, and ice cream in Omsk.
Earlier in the day, McDonald’s said it would temporarily close all 850 restaurants in Russia. The company will continue to pay salaries to its employees.
Earlier on Tuesday it became known that the American corporation Yum! Brands, operating in the field of catering, suspends investment and development in Russia. The corporation owns three global brands – KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. She also owns hundreds of The Habit Burger Grill restaurants in the US and China.
Before that, it became known that the owner of the brands Zara, Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti and others would suspend work in Russia. The Russian Federation accounts for about 8.5% of the group’s operating profit. On March 3, the Swedish company IKEA suspended its activities in Russia and Belarus.
Against the backdrop of Russia’s ongoing operation to protect the Donbass, a number of brands have decided to suspend work in the country. So, on March 4, it became known about the temporary closure of boutiques of brands belonging to the group of companies LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) and Kering in the territory of the Russian Federation.
In mid-February, due to the aggravation of the situation in the Donbass as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military, the DPR and LPR announced the evacuation of the civilian population to the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence.
On February 21, Vladimir Putin signed a corresponding decree. On February 24, he initiated the start of a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. As the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov clarified, the special operation has two goals – the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. He stressed that these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people.
