Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club is organizing the 43-foot sailboat race on February 1, 2024, depending on weather conditions, as part of the Abu Dhabi Marine Festival.
The festival includes a number of heritage activities and events, as well as traditional and modern sports, through which the club offers a package of activities that attract those interested in marine sports.
Registration for participation opened on Friday, and the number of participating boats is expected to reach 100 boats, as the race begins from the East Saadiyat region for a distance of 18 nautical miles, towards the finish line in front of the headquarters of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club on the capital’s Corniche.
Organizing the race is part of the club's programs for activities and events for the current season, which includes many races for sailboats and heritage boats of all categories, which highlight the Emirati heritage and its valuable vocabulary.
The club’s work team is responsible for the technical, logistical and organizational arrangements that accommodate the large participation that characterizes heritage races, especially the 43-foot sailboat races.
Majid Ateeq Al Muhairi, Director of the Marine Sports Department at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, expressed his thanks to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, for His Highness’s generous patronage of the 43-foot sailboat race, which the club organizes as part of the Abu Dhabi Marine Festival. Stressing that His Highness’s patronage doubles the value of the event and constitutes an incentive for the organisers, participants and followers.
Al Muhairi added: “Heritage races open the door for owners, sailors, sailors and followers to express their adherence to the authentic Emirati maritime heritage, because these races carry valuable and noble meanings that were given by grandfathers and fathers in the past, and they must be passed on to generations to connect the past with the present. He pointed out that supporting the wise leadership “Heritage events enhance efforts aimed at preserving this authentic heritage.”
He said: “Heritage races at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club receive special attention, in order to contribute to the efforts to preserve marine heritage, which is at the core of the club’s work and goals, in the sporting and societal aspects.”
