Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, affirmed that the United Arab Emirates, based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State “may God protect him”, is determined to continue its tireless efforts towards supporting international humanitarian action to provide a coordinated and comprehensive health response to the epidemic. From the COVID-19 pandemic, by strengthening the global health system to ensure equitable and sustainable access to safe and effective vaccines and treatments for all without discrimination or discrimination.
This came during her Excellency’s participation in the virtual foreign ministers meeting of the global action plan to confront the Covid-19 pandemic, which was organized by Japan and the United States with the participation of more than 30 countries and a number of specialized international organizations, with the aim of discussing mechanisms for providing vaccines to all parts of the world, and enhancing flexibility Supply chains for adequate supplies to produce vaccines, address the health information gap, support and protect health care workers, as well as strengthen the global health security architecture.
His Excellency Al Hashemi explained that the UAE is one of the first countries to extend a helping hand and cooperation to confront the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, as it began early planning for many initiatives and sent thousands of tons of urgent medical aid, which included vaccines, personal protection equipment, respirators and tests to nearly 140 countries. In addition to building and equipping field hospitals in 9 countries such as Palestine – Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, Mauritania and Sierra Leone.
Her Excellency added that in fulfillment of the UAE’s commitment to continue working with the international community, it pledged last May to provide an additional 60 million US dollars, and that the UAE is looking forward to working closely with the World Bank’s Financial Intermediation Fund, as it is a promising tool towards work and good planning to provide vaccines in a sustainable manner. . She added that in the last in attendance meeting of the global action plan, the challenges facing the supply chains for vaccine production requirements were highlighted, and that the UAE was able, through its strong infrastructure, distinguished location and huge logistical capabilities, to meet these challenges and transport more than 1.3 billion doses of vaccine. to countries in need in record time.
At the conclusion of her speech, His Excellency Al Hashemi affirmed that the UAE believes in the importance of strengthening international cooperation to achieve an effective response to the Covid-19 pandemic, because exiting from it requires everyone’s belief in the importance of joint action and integration of efforts at the level of national and international health systems to support global capabilities towards future resilience against any epidemic threats.
