Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, an initiative was implemented to purchase 65,000 books from the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair in its thirty-third session, and distribute them to the libraries of 220 schools in the country, through the allocation of a financial grant aimed at supporting the role of libraries. School education in spreading the culture of reading among students.
The grant contributed to the purchase of books and publications from 77 publishing houses that participated in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2024, to be distributed to the libraries of 220 schools in the Emirates, with the aim of providing references for all educational levels, spreading the culture of reading among students, and enriching educational resources and libraries in the country’s schools, in addition to supporting Publishing and creative industries sectors.
His Excellency Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said: “The Arabic language, with its diverse and rich literary heritage, is more than just a means of communication. Our language is a powerful and comprehensive tool for creative and critical thinking, enabling us to unify our thoughts and words. This generosity from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, confirms the importance of reading, preserves our language, and links multiple cultures and their speakers, ensuring its sustainability for future generations.”
His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Tamim, President of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, appreciated the grant of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, and said: “This initiative and the annual grant for the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair embody a continuous process of giving and unlimited support for the culture and education sectors. It contributes to strengthening the exhibition’s position as a global platform for disseminating science and knowledge, and we appreciate this great support from the President of the State, from whom we draw our inspiration with the aim of continuing our journey to keep the local and Arab publishing market competitive, and ensuring its sustainability in the process of social and cultural development and the thriving literary scene of our Emirate.”
His Excellency added: “This annual scholarship continues a long journey begun by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him, to support the ongoing knowledge and cultural journey, and presents to students a wide and diverse range of sources of knowledge and rich titles that were included in the exhibition, which stimulates their creative imagination. It contributes to strengthening the connection of new generations with the book and its capabilities, in addition to giving the publishing sector and the book industry a new space to continue working and giving.”
