Ukraine’s President Says No-Fly Zone Needed to Avoid Humanitarian Catastrophe

LVIV, Ukraine (Reuters) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Wednesday the international community would be responsible for a mass “humanitarian catastrophe” if it did not agree to implement a no-fly zone to protect his country.

In his daily televised address, he said the threat level was at its maximum, nearly two weeks after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but that the Ukrainians had shown they would never give up.

“Russia uses missiles, planes and helicopters against us, against civilians, against our cities, against our infrastructure. It is the world’s humanitarian duty to respond,” she said.
