Vladimir Putin’s troops cannot defend themselves. The next Ukrainian attack on Russian-occupied Crimea also hits a space radar station.
Simferopol – Crimea was supposed to be a kind of trophy for Vladimir Putin. Back when the Russian autocrat still thought his troops would simply overrun Ukraine.
Losses for Russia: Ukraine’s ATACMS missiles hit Crimea
But in May 2024, it becomes increasingly clear that his army is clearly unable to defend the illegally annexed peninsula against air strikes by the Ukrainian armed forces using ATACMS medium-range missiles.
Almost every day there are reports of the latest Russian losses in Crimea, caused by the powerful missiles that the USA supplied to Kiev to defend against Putin’s attack in the Ukraine war. Now a space radar station in the Black Sea was allegedly hit.
Vladimir Putin’s Black Sea Fleet: Losses for Russia in Crimea
As the American news magazine Newsweek writes, the local Telegram channel reported Crimean Wind on Friday (24 May) that Kiev’s armed forces had attacked military facilities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea on Thursday evening. At least six ATACMS ballistic missiles had hit a Russian army communications center, which housed a radio antenna of a space observation station, it was reported.
The information cannot be independently verified. The news agency Crimean Realmwhich is part of the US-funded network Radio Liberty reported that at least six explosions were reported in the Simferopol region and about eight explosions in the area of the Belbek military airfield near Sevastopol. The Moscow Defense Ministry had claimed that air defense systems had destroyed “three operational-tactical ATACMS missiles over the territory of the Republic of Crimea.” These figures cannot be independently verified either.
Russian losses in Ukraine: Putin’s troops cannot stop ATACMS
In addition, surface drones were allegedly stopped in the Crimean region, Russia said. Most recently, the Ukrainians modified the “Sea Baby” Magura V5 surface drone with Grad rocket launchers. But so far there has been no evidence that Putin’s troops are even capable of shooting down the ATACMS medium-range missiles, which can reach speeds of up to 3700 km/h, or that they are armed against the “Sea Baby”. Instead, Russian losses in Crimea are rising unabated. After the latest ATACMS attack on Crimea on Friday, pro-Ukrainian military bloggers reported on Telegram and X (formerly Twitter), among others, that there had been “significant damage” and several fatalities on the Russian side.
The ATACMS attacks have been increasing noticeably in recent weeks, as the Ukrainian armed forces are now able to attack targets up to 300 kilometers away with the new missiles. Just one example: On the night of May 14-15, the Ukrainians launched a devastating air attack on the Crimean military airfield Belbek. According to Ukrainian bloggers, this missile attack on the airfield destroyed two MiG-31 interceptors and set fire to a fuel and lubricants depot. The news agency Astra had shared a video on social media that allegedly showed the attack.
With ATACMS missiles: Ukraine strikes against Putin’s troops in Luhansk region
But it is not only in the Black Sea that the Kiev army is striking with the four-meter-long rockets fired from HIMARS multiple rocket launchers. As the often-quoted Ukrainian military blogger Igor Sushko recently wrote on X, the Ukrainians destroyed a fuel and lubricants depot installed in their country by the Moscow regime in the small Ukrainian town of Sverdlovsk. The town in the Luhansk region, with its approximately 63,000 inhabitants, has been occupied by pro-Russian separatists since the summer of 2014 and later by regular Russian invasion troops. (pm)
