The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine issued a statement against the iconic 'Russian Red' lipstick from the renowned Canadian cosmetics brand MAC.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has declared that this carmine, far from symbolizing beauty or love, represents “the color of the blood of Ukrainians” and is identified as “a true color of war that no one should ever experience.” The social media campaign included the hashtag #StopRussianRed.

He 'Russian Red' is an emblematic piece of MAC Cosmetics, founded in Toronto in 1984 and recognized worldwide. A deep matte red, this shade was originally created for iconic artist Madonna, an early fan of MACwho used it during his world tour in 1990.
This incident is not isolated, as it is not the first time that Ukrainian authorities take measures against companies with direct or indirect links to Russia.
The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption in Ukraine (NAPC) has included various companies from several countries, including the United States, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, on its list of “international sponsors of war.”
Among the companies highlighted is the fast food chain Subway, whose inclusion is justified by the operation of more than 500 restaurants in Russia that contribute significantly to the country's tax revenue. It is not the first time that renowned companies such as Geely, Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Leroy Merlin, Bonduelle, Yves Rocher, Metro AG and the Austrian banking group Raiffeisen Bank have been linked in this context.
Despite the controversy, the 'Russian red' continues to be one of the best-selling shades of MAC, establishing itself as an iconic product. With a sale of a MAC lipstick per second, this shade remains a favorite, reports 29 Secrets.
