It is known that the new head of the Ministry of Defense was previously Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine. He was also a member of the Kiev delegation to the contact group on Donbass. His candidacy for the post of defense minister was proposed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
On November 3, the Verkhovna Rada at a plenary meeting supported the dismissal of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran at his request. 341 deputies voted for the corresponding decision. Andriy Taran headed the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine since March 4, 2020. On November 2, he resigned.
According to the head of the Servant of the People faction David Arakhamia, Taran has health complaints. At the same time, according to him, the President of the Republic, Volodymyr Zelensky, has already decided on the candidacy for the post of Minister of Defense. When asked if the Ministry of Defense could be headed by a deputy from the Servant of the People, Arahamia evasively answered: “We are for the equality of all citizens.”
