Moscow Patriarch Kirill has lost Ukraine “definitively” from a religious point of view. The founder of Ecumenical Russia, Fr Sergio Mercanzin at the Adnkronos analyzes the fallout from the “predictable” farewell of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Moscow. A cutting of bridges, said the ‘father’ of Ecumenical Russia, which was “inevitable. Even the Ukrainian Orthodox who depended on Moscow, seeing that Patriarch Kirill is with Putin, who is bombing them, in the end cannot stay neither with Putin nor with Kirill. Blood is worth more than religion“.
Now what’s going to happen? “There remains an orthodoxy that does not depend on Moscow but which is autonomous, if anything from Constantinople. Moreover – notes Fr Mercanzin – there was a continuous haemorrhage of Orthodox in Ukraine which had now divided into a part that was with Constantinople and one that he was with Moscow. Eventually there will be a strong Orthodox Church in Ukraine, a Patriarchate will be established with a Patriarch of Kiev and Ukraine will have its own patriarchate which will no longer be that of Moscow or that of Constantinople “.
The founder of Ecumenical Russia does not exclude, as some observers say, that the two Orthodox churches, that of Onofrio and that of Epifanij, “could join together with the Greek Catholics and one of Onofrio, Epifanij and Shevchuk could become the Patriarch “. Fr Mercanzin reflects on the overturning of the plans of the leader of the Kremlin and the Patriarch of Moscow: “Putin is unable to take Ukraine and Kirill has lost it from a religious point of view, he will no longer command even a parish in Ukraine. The Russian Church will reduces to half, recalling that the faithful of Kirill attend the Church very little unlike the faithful in Ukraine who are very practicing “. It could thus happen, and also “soon enough”, says the founder of Ecumenical Russia, that the Vatican could have “the Patriarch of Kiev” among its interlocutors.
