Ukraine announced on Thursday that it had ordered the mandatory evacuation of children and their families from several cities and towns in the Donetsk region in the east of the country.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the bombing is now focused on the Donetsk region, which Russia announced its annexation in 2022.
A local official in the Donetsk region said on social media, “This is an important decision aimed primarily at saving the lives of our children. The security situation in the region is constantly deteriorating, and the intensity of the bombing is increasing.”
This decision included the city of Liman, in addition to several towns near the front line, including the village of Progres.
Last month, Ukraine was forced to transfer manpower to the northern Kharkiv region from other areas on the front line after Russian forces launched a ground attack on the border region.
