He underlined that “wind at sea and especially nuclear power” are “means to have electricity generation capacities in the United Kingdom”. “There is an awareness within the government that we could do more on nuclear,” Kwarteng said.
By 2050, the UK could have “six or seven” nuclear plants. “That won’t happen in the next two years, but it’s certainly something we can look forward to.”
According to the Sunday Telegraph, the plan calls for the construction of at least two large
nuclear power plants before 2030, as well as small reactors. Most nuclear sites currently in operation are due to close within these timeframes.
