For some time now, Ubisoft began a long plan to restructure its teams, reduce costs and concentrate its resources on fewer and larger games. This has had positive results, such as the scale that will Assassin’s Creed: Shadowsbut difficult decisions have also been made, like canceling a new game The Division.
Through its most recent investor meeting, Ubisoft has confirmed that Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland It has been canceled. This is a free-to-play game, and the resources that were destined for this project will be used in XDefiant and Rainbow Six. This is what was said about it:
“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to pause development of Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, effective immediately. “Our priority now is to support the talented team members at our studio Red Storm Entertainment, who will transition to new projects within our company, including XDefiant and Rainbow Six.”
Ubisoft announced The Division Heartland in 2021, with Red Storm Entertainment as the team in charge of this project. The interesting thing is that, despite its delays, This title was expected to be available at the end of 2024and tests were even carried out in Taiwan not long ago.
This is just one of the many projects that Ubisoft has canceled in recent years. Some of these, as a sequel to Immortal Fenyx Rising, were eventually released to the public, but most have been experiences that we don’t know much about. The strange thing is that The Sands of Time Remake, which has undergone multiple reboots, and is surely costing the French company a lot, is still standing.
We can only wait to see what will happen with Ubisoft games in the future. For now, we know that in the second half of the year we will see Star Wars: Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, titles that can be a great success for the company. Author’s Note:
The Division and its sequel are quite interesting games. However, there is no denying the fact that the popularity of this property has declined substantially, so there were surely no great financial expectations for its new project.
