Members of the Parliamentary Division Group of the Federal National Council in the Arab Parliament participated in the work of the second plenary session of the Arab Parliament of the fourth session of the third legislative term, which was held yesterday at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
The Parliamentary Division Group includes in its membership: Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi, Chairman of the Group, Member of the Foreign, Political and National Security Affairs Committee, Naima Abdullah Al-Sharhan, Vice-Chairman of the Group, Member of the Social, Educational, Cultural and Women’s Affairs Committee, and Majid Mohammed Al-Mazrouei, Member of the Legislative, Legal and Human Rights Affairs Committee. And Muhammad Hassan Al-Dhahouri, member of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee. At the beginning of the session, Majid Al Mazrouei and Muhammad Al Dhahouri took the legal oath to become members of the Arab Parliament, to exercise their duties in accordance with the Arab Parliament system.
Muhammad Al-Yamahi indicated that the session reviewed the current developments in the Arab world, discussed the formation of an Arab parliamentary vision to contribute to resolving the escalating crises in the Arab region, and the report of the Foreign and Political Affairs Committee was presented on the political and security developments in a number of Arab countries, stressing the importance of supporting their stability and security.
Naima Al-Sharhan said that the Social Affairs Committee submitted its report to the Arab Parliament session, and discussed the possibility of holding a virtual workshop on Arab Women’s Day to announce the parliamentary document for Arab women. It also discussed developments in holding a symposium on “Protecting Societal Values in the Arab World” in the Kingdom of Morocco, and proposals were also presented. To enhance youth participation in public life, a study to eliminate unemployment, the preparation of an Arab parliamentary vision to enable Arab youth to contribute to development processes, and a proposal to prepare a database for Arab antiquities that have been destroyed, stolen, or mutilated.
Majed Al Mazrouei said that the Arab Parliament session reviewed the report of the Legislative, Legal and Human Rights Affairs Committee, which includes a number of draft resolutions to strengthen Arab efforts in the legislative, legal and human rights fields, in addition to the main themes of the 2023 Human Rights Situation Report. A report was also presented. An Arab parliamentary vision to combat the repercussions of disasters and crises on the countries of the Arab region, including climate change, noting that the UAE has an integrated national system for managing emergencies and crises, and has a global record in efforts aimed at combating climate challenges and its effects, and announced historic decisions in this field at the COP28 conference.
Muhammad Al-Dhahouri said that the session adopted the report of the Financial Affairs Committee, which included an item on cooperation and coordination to eliminate hunger in the Arab region, and the draft project “Regulating the Combat of Food Supply Losses – Food Loss and Waste” will be circulated to the Arab parliaments to express their comments in preparation for its adoption by the Arab Parliament. A proposal was presented regarding the preparation of an Arab strategy to support entrepreneurship in Arab countries and the digital economy, in cooperation between the Arab Parliament and specialized institutions.
