At least four people have been seriously injured following the crash of a cable car in Tyrol, Austria. According to previous information, a fallen tree landed on the cable car's supporting cable, causing the cable car to crash. Rescue workers intervened at the scene of the accident and helicopters are also operational. The accident occurred around 10.20am today 9 January between the eighth and ninth pylons of the Acherkogelbahn railway, in the Hochoetz ski area (Imst district), about thirty kilometers west of Innsbruck. For now, nothing is known about the identity of the seriously injured. All other guests were taken to the mountains or valleys. Rescue of the injured people is currently underway.

Experts are currently on site to ascertain the causes of the accident, although a technical defect is currently ruled out, the Austrian media unanimously report. It must be said that there was no strong wind at the time of the crash. The facility (consisting of approximately 60 cabins) will remain out of service indefinitely. Local authorities report that the detachment of a cabin, even in the case of falling trees, it is considered a freak accident.
