Two donors paid 35,000 dirhams for the renewal of the health insurance card for the patient (Umm Ahmed – 61 years old), with the first providing 20,000 dirhams, while another donor sponsored 15,000 dirhams, so that she could complete her treatment and take her medications, as she suffers from kidney failure and osteoporosis. She also underwent a lung transplant.
The “hotline” coordinated between the donors and the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai, to transfer the donation amount to the patient’s account in Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi.
The patient’s son (the family’s sole breadwinner) expressed his thanks to the donors who stood by him in light of the difficult financial circumstances he was going through, pointing out that charitable work is not strange to the people of the Emirates, who are distinguished by their solidarity with humanitarian cases, and extending a helping hand and assistance to everyone in need.
Ahmed previously told the story of his mother’s suffering to Emirates Today, saying: “My mother is crippled and uses a wheelchair to move around, and she underwent a lung transplant in January 2023 in a hospital in Abu Dhabi, after a charitable organization in the country contributed to paying… The cost of the operation and the period of my mother’s stay in the hospital,” noting that health insurance covered part of the cost of medicines, while he paid the rest.
He added: “In March of this year, my mother began to feel fatigue and severe pain, and completely lost her ability to move, which required her to be transferred immediately to the emergency department in Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi, where she underwent the necessary tests, the results of which showed that she had kidney failure, in addition to Osteoporosis, and needs urgent treatment and medications,” he said, noting that his mother’s health insurance card has expired and needs to be renewed at a cost of 35 thousand dirhams.
The patient’s son continued: “Due to the difficult financial circumstances I am going through, I cannot pay the cost of renewing the card so that my mother can complete her treatment.”
He stated that he is the sole breadwinner for his family members, which consists of a wife (a housewife) and three children, in addition to his elderly parents. He explained that he works in one of the private sector agencies, with a monthly salary of 14 thousand dirhams, of which he pays 4.8 thousand dirhams for housing rent, in addition to paying installments. For a bank loan, while the remaining part of the salary goes to educational expenses and daily life requirements.
The patient’s son (Umm Ahmed) stated that he had approached several charitable organizations to help him manage the cost of renewing his mother’s health insurance card in light of her urgent need to continue her treatment and take her medications, pointing out that any delay would reflect negatively on her health condition, which was getting worse day after day.
