The Spanish fishing boat was anchored for repairs when the outbreak occurred
Two crew members of the Albacora Cuatro, a tuna vessel with port in Vigo, have died in an explosion of the vessel produced in Seychelles during a repair in port.
According to industry sources, the deceased are a Galician and an Asturian crew member, both residents of Vigo. In addition, government sources report that eight other crew members would also be injured. The newspaper ‘La Voz de Galicia’ reports that an ammonia leak would have been the cause of the incident. The Albacora Cuatro is a freezer tuna vessel that operates in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans.
With its base port in Vigo and a Spanish flag, it has a length of 83 meters and its final registration occurred in 1989. This fishing vessel was seized in 2000 off the coast of Somalia, when it belonged to a Basque company.
