Twitch has announced the arrival of Guest Star, a new tool that allows creators to invite guests within their own streams. The creators will be able, in fact, to insert the audio and video of the guests in their direct, eliminating the need to resort to third-party applications. Anyone with an account on Twitch can be invited (without exceeding the maximum number of five guests), both from desktop and from mobile. This summer, Guest Star will be premiered to a small group of select creators who are already used to offering talk show-style streams on Twitch. This first trial will allow Twitch to get feedback on the new feature before it is released to all creators on the service within the year. All guests will need to have an account on Twitch, so any TOS violation can be reported to Twitch, which will take action accordingly. Twitch’s move to facilitate the talk format stems from the great success of this type of content: talk shows are one of the fastest growing categories on the platform: comparing the period January-May 2020 with the period January-May 2022, revenues of creators broadcasting live within the Just Chatting category grew by 169%, the hours of live coverage in the category increased by 68%, the hours of Just Chatting viewed increased by 151%.
