These are being intense days at Stamford Bridge. When possible sanctions on Russian oligarchs with interests in the UK were announced, Roman Abramovich was quick to put Chelsea up for sale. Time is running out, but there is still no confirmed buyer. In the midst of it all, Thomas Tuchel’s side lost on penalties in the League Cup final, beat Luton Town in the FA Cup with difficultyand prepares his next league match, this weekend against Burnley.
“The day after playing Luton Town, Petr Cech brought us up to date. He spoke for all the people who work in the building, players included, and explained the situation”, argued the German coach at the press conference on Friday. “There wasn’t much we didn’t already know, we have to live in these circumstances. It doesn’t make much sense to worry because we don’t have any influence.”
Thomas Tuchel was also asked about his own future, as the arrival of a new owner will mean a change in the organization chart of the club. And possibly a new coach. The coach downplayed this fact, suggesting that he is used to working under pressure. The one with the results. “Chelsea, from my point of view, is a perfect place and I love being here. I hope it continues. There is uncertainty, but there always is when you are a football coach. I’m positive and I hope everything ends well.”
Fall, it seems, the empire of Roman Abramovich in London. An era of almost 20 years in which Chelsea have won it all. Last month, in the United Arab Emirates, César Azpilicueta lifted the cup that accredits those from Stamford Bridge as world champions. The only title missing from the collection. “We are very happy to have been able to win it for him. We close a cycle with him and with his effort, passion and commitment to the club. It was a good moment”.
