After the more than positive results obtained byAlphaTauri during free practice for the Qatar GP – especially thanks to Pierre Gasly’s performance – the Faenza team also confirmed its success in qualifying, easily entering Q3 with both drivers. While the Frenchman finished in 4th place, despite ending the session with damage to the front wing caused by a puncture, also Yuki Tsunoda redeemed himself from the last test in Brazil by winning theeighth place.
In this way, the 21-year-old Japanese has close to his best overall qualifying placement, just one position behind the seventh place it had achieved in Azerbaijan and Austria. Consequently, Tsunoda will try not only to take advantage of this performance to finish in the points – thus helping AlphaTauri in the direct challenge with Alpine for fifth place in the constructors’ championship – but also to be able to further improve his highest ranking ever. achieved in the race, still fixed in 6th place in the Hungarian GP.
Meanwhile, the Japanese analyzed his performance in Losail, thus expressing his satisfaction: “I think it was a good qualifying and I’m happy to start from eighth tomorrow – has explained – pity we had to sacrifice an additional set of Soft to overcome Q1, because I missed them for Q3, however I am very satisfied with how it went today. We think it will be very difficult to overtake during the race, then the start will be fundamental. The good thing is that we are all in the same situation, as no one has ever driven here before. Tonight we will prepare as best we can and see what happens tomorrow ”.
