Former US President Donald Trump warned following his historic criminal trial that a prison sentence against him would be a “turning point” for his supporters.
Trump said in an interview broadcast on the American Fox network yesterday, that he “accepts the matter, but he is not confident that public opinion will accept it,” adding, “It will be difficult for the public to accept” a prison sentence, and, as you know, at some point, there is a turning point.
He also confirmed that his criminal trial was “extremely harsh” on his wife, Melania, the most prominent absentee from attending the sessions that ended with his conviction.
At the end of two days of deliberations, a jury of 12 ordinary citizens from New York last Thursday unanimously declared Trump guilty of all 34 charges against him.
The former president could face up to four years in prison, and possibly a fine as well, but the judge may issue a suspended prison sentence, or even community service.
In a speech, Donald Trump described the trial as unfair, without providing the slightest evidence of this.
For his part, President Joe Biden said, “It is dangerous and irresponsible for anyone to say that this trial is unfair simply because he did not like the ruling.”
