WashingtonFormer President Donald J. Trump is expected to meet with a group of Republican senators and House members this week in Washington, where he will also meet with business leaders, according to two people familiar with the matter.
The meetings between Trump and lawmakers will take place on Thursday, a few weeks before Trump is formally named the presidential nominee for the third time.
The meeting was reported by NBC News and confirmed by two people who are aware of the matter.
A Trump campaign official who confirmed the meetings said they could discuss plans for border security and economic policies.
Trump allies on Capitol Hill have been discussing plans for the 2025 administration agenda for several weeks.
The former president has released policy proposals on issues such as immigration, trade and more for many months of his third presidential campaign.
Although these proposals have not advanced due to their legal problems.
Trump has faced three civil trials in the past 18 months and was criminally charged four times during the same period.
He was convicted last month of 34 felony counts of falsifying accounting records to conceal payments made to the porn actress in exchange for her silence during the 2016 campaign.
He will be sentenced on July 11, just days before the start of the Republican National Convention.
The meeting could give lawmakers a chance to hear more about Trump’s plans for his second administration, directly from him.
During his campaign, Trump has spoken extensively about a plan to deport millions of undocumented immigrants, as well as lower energy costs and impose new tariffs on imports.
