New York – After several months, the filmmakers of “The Apprentice” have managed to set a release date for the USA. The film covers Donald Trump’s rise in the New York real estate business and his relationship with Roy Cohn. For a long time, no distributor could be found for the film, but now it is set to hit the screens before the US elections on November 5th. In the film, the ex-president is also portrayed as a rapist.
Trump film “The Apprentice” hits theaters before US election
“The Apprentice” premiered in May at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Independent distributor Briarcliff Entertainment now plans to release the film in the US on October 11, as NBC NEWS reported. The topic is Trump’s rise in real estate in the 1970s and 1980s, played by Marvel star Sebastian Stan. The relationship with lawyer Roy Cohn – played by Jeremy Strong, known from “Succession” – is also shown.
According to the film, Cohn contributed to Trump’s career and is portrayed as his mentor. However, he was later dropped by the Republican presidential candidate. Cohn died in 1986 from the effects of AIDS, but denied being HIV-positive. The film is scheduled to be released in Germany on October 17, according to the Daily News writes.
Trump as a rapist: Film “The Apprentice” shows scene with deceased wife Ivana
The film, directed by Iranian-Danish filmmaker Ali Abbasi, also features a dramatic scene with Trump’s first wife Ivana, who died in 2022. In it, she is raped by Trump, which she claimed in her 1990 divorce statement. She later said that she did not mean this literally, but felt abused by him. The film’s screenplay was written by Vanity Fair journalist Gabriel Sherman, who has been studying Trump’s life for decades.

Trump’s team is clearly opposed to the film. In a statement from May, Trump’s campaign spokesman Steven Cheung called the film “pure malicious slander.” He also threatened legal action. “We will file a lawsuit to address the blatantly false claims made by these alleged filmmakers,” said Cheung. “This garbage is pure fiction that inflates lies that have long been disproven.”
Trump’s lawyers have sent a cease and desist letter to the filmmakers of “The Apprentice,” as the Mirror reported. The aim was to prevent the sale and release of the film in the USA. In a statement by the film producers on the cease and desist order, they wrote: “The film is a fair and balanced portrait of the former president.” They added: “We want everyone to see it and then decide.” (vk)
