The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, This Thursday he chose former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to replace Matt Gaetz who was forced to withdraw his candidacy for attorney general after he was cornered over his sex scandals.
“Pam was a prosecutor for almost 20 years. She was very tough on violent criminals and made the streets safe for Florida families,” said the future president on his social network, Truth Social.
The New York tycoon recalled that, as Florida’s first female attorney generala position he held from 2011 to 2019, Bondi “worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs and reduce the tragedy of fentanyl overdose deaths, which have destroyed many families” across the United States.
“He did such an incredible job that I asked him to be part of our Commission on Drug Abuse and Opioids during my first term (2017-2019). We saved many lives!” he added.
Trump reiterated that, “for too long,” the Justice Department has been used against him or other Republicans, something he said will stop.
“Pam will refocus the Department of Justice on its purpose of fighting crime and make America safe again. I have known Pam for many years. “She is intelligent and tough,” he said of his new choice, about whom he assured that “she will do an excellent job as attorney general.”
Gaetz involved in human trafficking
Gaetz, who until last week was a congressman, renounced his candidacy to be attorney general this Thursday.
He was investigated in the past by the Department of Justice, although never charged, for having allegedly had sex with minors, violating human trafficking lawsas well as drug use.
In parallel, he faced a second investigation, open until last week, in the Ethics Committee of the House of Representatives, but those investigations were closed when he resigned his seat last week, as Trump nominated himbecause the commission was left without powers over the legislator.
