HUndercover trucks from Hesse and all over Germany are expected to cause massive traffic disruptions in Wiesbaden city center on Saturday. The Federal Association of Logistics and Transport has called for a demonstration to express its dissatisfaction with the introduction of a CO2-to articulate toll. “Stinginess was cool and we are here – we are loud because the traffic lights are stealing our existence,” is the motto of the event, for which around 300 drivers have registered with their trucks, as the association announces.
The background to the dispute is the introduction of a new toll for diesel trucks. According to the association, toll costs for trucking companies would increase by 83 percent. Every ton of CO emitted2 should cost 200 euros.
“The transport and logistics industry is facing desolate conditions and the effects of this measure are devastating,” said the association. There is a risk of a wave of insolvencies among shipping companies. The toll increase, which is due to come on December 1st, endangers jobs and security of supply.
Convoy travels from Mainz to Wiesbaden
The truck drivers start in Mainz and drive via the A 60 and A 671 to Wiesbaden and then via Mainzer Straße and the First Ring onto Wilhelmstraße. The police estimate that the convoy will be around 19 kilometers long, especially since there should be a distance of 50 meters between the trucks on the highway.
The rally is planned for 12 p.m. on Wilhelmstrasse. The road is closed on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., from Kureck via Friedrich-Ebert-Allee to the First Ring. Bus delays and occasional cancellations are to be expected throughout the city center.
