King trotters will be held this year at Forssa’s Pilvenmäki on the 29th–31st. July. On Wednesday, the 24 horses that are aiming for the wreath were announced at the Forssa market.

Ravi king Evartti, 11, defends his crown. It won the kingship twice in consecutive years at Seinäjoki during the corona era and is now seeking a third consecutive title, but the 7-year-old Parvelan Retu is a tough opponent this year as an exceptionally successful horse.

Välkyn Tuisku, Veeran Poika, Kujanpää’s Jyräys, Vixeli, Enon Vilppi, Sheikki, Rokin Maxi, Herra Heinämies, HV Tuuri and Uljas Suomalainen form the rest of the group aspiring for the kingship.

This year, the horses were chosen for the first time based on points. In the selection, a point table reminiscent of the F1 races was used, where the horses received points in certain starts according to their position. From the beginning of June, points accumulated in the points ranking by a factor of 1.5, and the most points were obtained from the grand prix start.

Directly A ranking in the top ten qualified for a place in the Kuninkuusravi, outside of which the main committee of the Kuninkuusravi had the right to replace those in 11th and 12th places with a trotter with fewer points. The lifts had to have a particularly strong justification, such as exceptional climbing condition or success in the previous year’s competition.

Since Kartier, ranked 12th in the stallion ranking, was not announced due to the current state of the race, Uljas Suomalainen, ranked 13th, took his place. On the mares’ side, the top 12 in the points ranking continue directly to the queen race.

“There was a thorough discussion, but in the end the choices were really easy and unanimous”, Finnish Hippos trotting director Tomi Himanka stated.

Last summer, Suven Sametti was crowned trotting queen at the age of 6 after finishing 2nd, 3rd and 2nd. The closest to her in the overall race were Ciiran Tähti, Lakan Leija, Hetviina, Liisan Tulilintu and Taksvenla. They are included even now, as is Vennelmon Varma. The dozen is completed by NP Liitotähti, Lily, Hulluduunari, MA Piste and Varjonova.
