Affaritaliani.it – Puglia has also decided to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri, dedicating this space every weekend to the publication of works by Apulian Dante artists or authors, whose articles are inspired by the influence of the Somma Poeta on the Apulian reality in particular or the Italian one in general.
Coupled debut with Mina, then spotlight on Netflix with the hit fiction with Sabrina, and forays into Lars von Trier’s “Jack’s House”; then the encounter with Harry Potter in the saga of Joaanne K. Rowling; the adventure among the fulminating tweets of Dante’s triplets and the exploration of the influence of the Supreme Poet in contemporary prose.
And after Dante’s foray into the world of mystery and his arrival in Sicily in the intrigues of Nino Motta, the journey unfolded between the pages of the books of Eraldo Affinati and Giulio Ferroni, with the subsequent literary controversy ignited by Arno Widmann. Then to touch the function of “Compass” of The Divine Comedy for a novel by Marco Balzano, the exam on Nick Tosches and “Dante’s hand”; continuing the editorial success of Dan Brown in the pages of “Inferno”; up to sneaking among those who committed violence to themselves (suicides). Then we go into the suggestive labyrinth of mathematics, of the didactic-scientific front and on the reflective side with the book by Marco Santagata; or in the research with the “Luce de la gran Costanza”: the Norman bride of Carla Maria Russo.
Up to involving the musical creativity of Vinicio Capossela, to cross the historical figure of Manente degli Uberti – ‘Farinata’ or to confront the double bet of Laura Pariani, with Chiara Ingrao’s Bildungsroman or with the anomalous implication of Dante’s “selfies” . And still to continue with “Charun the demon and Dante’s mythological imagery”, at the MANU – National Archaeological Museum of Umbria – in Perugia, and with the figure, the site and the greatness of Dante’s Inferno according to Galileo Galilei. And again with the charisma of the Saint of Mira (Anatolia), for all San Nicola di Bari, and the event / lesson in Acquaviva delle Fonti (Ba) with Dante and the Divine Comedy in an “Ecological” perspective; as well as the announcement of the university seminar (open to all), entitled “Dante … di corsa”. But also with the one and trine appointment with Antonio V, Gelormini and Franco Leone of the three Dante evenings in Troia (Fg) “Words of Stone and Verses of Light” and the many references to the element of water, within the Divine Comedy.
It continues with the tribute to Gianni Rodari, and the examination of the film by Gabriele Salvatores “All my crazy love”, to continue with the intervention at the Festival ‘Parole in walk’ in Florence and with the performance of the “dancing words” with Elisa Barucchieri and the ResExtensa corps de ballet. To then advance like a climb with the memory of Alfonsina Strada (1891-1959): the runner who in 1924, first (and only) woman, took part in the Giro d’Italia. Then he approaches the Holy Christmas with the multiple references to the Christian holiday in Coomedia.
The review by Trifone Gargano (Pugliese, Teacher of Italian Language and Computer Science for Literature, as well as Dante and literary popularizer) confronts the students of Cerignola (Fg) and the figure of Nicola Zingarelli. (ag)

Among the many initiatives carried out during 2021, for Dante’s seven hundredth anniversary, in the school environment, with which I came into contact, I like, here, to mention that of‘Carducci-Paolillo Comprehensive Institute of Cerignola (Fg), which involved the students of the second class (section E) of middle school, with the didactic supervision of the teachers Nicola D’Andrea And Luna Olivieri.
The activity carried out, in the form of a “reality task” (as we say today, with an updated pedagogical lexicon), is called “Dante glocal “, and imagine a meeting, in the streets of Cerignola, between the poet and the Cerignolan scholar Nicola Zingarelli, linguist and literary critic, who has dedicated dozens and dozens of articles, essays and books to Dante, his language and his biography, for his entire life. In fact, the video contains a manuscript sheet bearing the title of one of Zingarelli’s first linguistic studies on Dante (his own degree thesis):
With a screenplay created by the students, it was decided to bring Dante and Nicola together, through the streets (almost a “dark forest») Of Cerignola, and to make them dialogue (despite the distances existing between the two, of a chronological, cultural, religious, philosophical, etc.). the two stimulating questions that the teachers provided to the students were:
- What is the thread that binds Nicola Zingarelli and Dante Alighieri?
- Despite the different eras in which the two lived, could Zingarelli and Dante have become friends? If so, why?
A short film entitled, precisely, “Dante glocal “, with subject, script, costumes and soundtrack all made by the students. The teachers, D’Andrea and Olivieri, provided the supervision and the suggestion of the triplets to be recited, from time to time, scene by scene. Inclusive work precisely because all 17 members of this class group were actively involved. Here are some shots taken from the short film:
The short film was made, for filming and for video editing, by Christopher Morra, with cine.moodles production.
Zingarelli, therefore, was not only the author of the famous Vocabulary of the Italian language, but also one of the most clever Dante of Italy, with a fidelity, towards Dante and his work, which lasted throughout his life.
Already at the end of the nineteenth century, Zingarelli waited for the realization of a scholastic commentary on the Divine Comedy, divided into three volumes, as it was (and still is today) the custom of reading (I would say, school canon of reading) of Dante’s poem, in the final three years of high school (respectively, theHell in the third year; the Purgatory to the fourth; and the Paradise fifth):
Subsequently, in 1934, Zingarelli produced a prestigious edition of the Divine Comedy of Dante, with the complete text of the work, his linguistic-philological commentary, and with the addition of refined artistic tables, drawing on Dante’s depiction of all the centuries.
Here, below, is a miniature by Dante, inserted, in fact, in the edition edited by Zingarelli in 1934, for the Editions of the Italian Institute of Graphic Arts of Bergamo, concerning the first canto of theHell, and dating back to the fourteenth century (now preserved in Florence, at the Laurentian Medical Library):
[le miniature si riferiscono alla visione del «dilettoso colle», all’incontro con le tre «fiere», e, infine, all’apparizione di Virgilio]
Other tables embellish the Gypsy edition of the Comedy Dante:
