The event starts today at 6 pm with pedal assisted MTBs. The Gorizia has won the last two World Cup races. Men’s and women’s competitions on Saturday. Women: challenge between Berta, Lechner and Seiwald
Great expectations in Val Casies (Bolzano) for the Tricolor cross country and e-MTB, which open today at 6 pm with pedal assist specialists: favorites Martino Fruet and Mirko Tabacchi. 500 athletes will be at the start in the long weekend organized by SSV Pichl Gsies which on Saturday awaits its key day, the one that will assign the tricolor jerseys in cross country for the elite, Under 23 and junior categories. In total there will be 27 titles up for grabs. The star is Luca Braidot, winner of the last two rounds of the World Cup, the first Italian to win two races in a row (Lenzerheide and Vallnord): the 31-year-old from Gorizia of the Santa Cruz-FSA team is chasing his third Italian title in the category elite, in a test in which he has never dropped from the podium from 2012 onwards. Reigning champion Nadir Colledani (Team MMR) leads a roster of valuable opponents, which also includes the South Tyrolean Gerhard Kerschbaumer (Team Specialized), winner last year in Valle di Casies and growing in condition after a season start quite anonymous, and the youngest Juri Zanotti (BMC Racing Team).
Elite women The challenge will be between 24-year-old Martina Berta (Santa Cruz-FSA) from Aosta, who appeared in excellent condition in the latest outings, and 37-year-old South Tyrolean Eva Lechner (Team Trinx), multiple winner of the Italian championships with 12 affirmations in the Elite category. Behind them, Greta Seiwald, an athlete originally from Val Casies, represents the second striker of Team Santa Cruz, while Giorgia Marchet (Team Trinx) and Chiara Teocchi (Team Trinity) are the luxury outsiders
Under 23 After the satisfactions at the European Championships in Portugal, Wilier-Pirelli is the reference team of the two U23 tests, thanks to the continental champion Simone Avondetto and the Giada Specia bronze medal. In the men’s race Avondetto will have to beware of Filippo Fontana (CS Carabinieri), while Specia, winner of the last edition of the Internazionali d’Italia Series, will aim to reconfirm herself as category champion despite the competition of the younger Sara Cortinovis (Santa Cruz-FSA), winner of the Juniores title in 2021.
Timetables Saturday: 9 am, junior men; 11 am, men U23; 1 pm, women juniors, U23 and elite); 3 pm, elite men. On Sunday from 9 am the competitions reserved for amateurs.
