The Ministry of Transport headed by Óscar Puente has made a first estimate of the cost that will be involved in fixing the damage caused by the DANA as it passes through the province of Valencia: 2.6 billion euros to restore the road and railway network, basic infrastructure for the mobility.
This is the conclusion that the Government and the Generalitat Valenciana have communicated after the meeting of the Government-Consell Infrastructure Immediate Response Group in which Puente itself participated, together with the Minister of Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, and the Minister of Agriculture, Water, Livestock and Fisheries, Miguel Barrachina.
In the coming days, “Minister Óscar Puente will travel to Valencia to continue with the talks and recovery work on road and rail infrastructure,” the Transport and Mobility portfolio has advanced.
The session has also served to detail “the actions that the different administrations are already carrying out in the road and railway network and it has been agreed on the constitution of two working subgroups to advance the work and improve coordination.”
On the other hand, it has been agreed to jointly carry out a transportation plan to provide an alternative for mobility until the main routes into and out of Valencia and the municipalities affected by the floods can be restored.
Progress in recovery
For its part, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has already enabled all the lanes of the V-30, V-31, A-3 and the A-7 north of the A-3 and is advancing in the reconstruction work. from the N-330, the N-322 and the A-7.
In the latter, the department headed by Óscar Puente has specified, “progress is being made in the construction of the provisional detour of the A-7, with speed limitations, to allow movements with the A-3” and “the concreting for the subsequent installation of the 250 frames that will make up the provisional south by-pass of the A-7”.
Regarding the Cercanías network, according to the ministry, “lines C6 and C5 are already operating normally and with capacity reinforcement, while the cleaning and removal of vehicles from the tracks and stations of C1, C2 are being accelerated. and C3”.
According to the state government, “the first two lines are damaged, but are better than expected, allowing them to be put into operation in a reasonable time.” This situation contrasts with the situation of C3, which “is very complicated.”
The Generalitat Valenciana has begun actions for the repair or construction of at least nine structures. In particular, “the need to intervene on two bridges on the CV-36 highway and two others on the CV-33 stands out,” the ministry stated.
In addition, “it is necessary to prepare different roads that have suffered flooding, with special attention to the CV-50 and the CV-400, from where vehicles have already been removed and transferred to the Valencia Sud countryside for subsequent expertise.”
In the Metrovalencia network, work has already begun to restore circulation “progressively”, both on the tram lines and in the metro after the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) own facilities in Valencia Sud were affected by the floods, with significant damage to both the workshops, offices and command post.
“The regionally owned railway network is very damaged, especially the section between Sant Isidre and Castelló with all types of damage to both the tracks and the catenaries,” the ministry maintains.
