The injuries sustained were too serious: for Giulia Maroni, who turned 37 at the end of October, the excursion on Sunday 28 January to the Modena Apennines was fatal. With her partner and their dog, Giulia was walking the CAI path 433 that from Mount Libro Aperto leads to the Taburri refugein Fanano, when suddenly, for reasons yet to be ascertained (probably the presence of an ice sheet on the route), the girl lost her balance, slipping into a gully and falling disastrously for 50 meters among trees and rocks.
The companion's request for help was immediate: the EliPavullo aircraft intervened quickly, bringing first the medical and technical team from the Monte Cimone station to the site of the accident and then the Alpine Rescue team. The rescue operations were complex due to the inaccessibility of the location. Despite the timely intervention of 118 and the flight to the Maggiore hospital in Bologna, Giulia didn't make it. The trauma of her fall was unfortunately fatal.
