Traffic on the M-11 Neva highway in the Novgorod region has been restored after a massive accident. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported this on Tuesday, January 9.
“Movement completely restored,” the department’s Telegram channel says.
The heating stations deployed by the Ministry of Emergency Situations also completed their work on site.
An accident near Veliky Novgorod happened the day before. According to data on the Telegram channel of the traffic police in the Novgorod region on the morning of January 9, the accident affected 66 vehicles. A criminal case has been opened. Traffic in the direction of Moscow was blocked, a detour was organized at the 545th km of the highway through the federal highway M-10 “Russia”.
The press service of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that four people died in the accident. The number of victims, according to preliminary data, reached 16.
The Russian Ministry of Health reported the evacuation of 10 victims, including two children. Three people, including a child, were hospitalized.
Footage of the consequences of what happened on the same day was shown by Izvestia correspondent Maxim Bazhanov. According to him, no one was released from the scene until the end of the check by employees of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. There were heating points for drivers along the route.
On the dashcam camera you can see that the accident began with one of the cars skidding, after which a “chain reaction” began – due to bad weather, the cars were unable to brake on the slippery road. Drivers said the snowstorm made visibility difficult.
