A position paper from the FDP is not well received by the coalition partners SPD and the Greens. SPD General Secretary Kühnert teases: “At some point you become Sams.”
Berlin – Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) wants to get his party’s support to implement the five-point plan for a budget turnaround. With this position paper, the Liberals want to achieve a “generationally fair budget policy,” as the FDP puts it. In particular, the plan addresses pensions at 63 and further reforms of the social system. The Greens and SPD are not enthusiastic.
FDP position paper could lead to the next dispute in the traffic light coalition
Other points in the paper: compliance with the debt brake, refraining from taking on further debt in the EU and relief for companies. The position paper is not particularly well received when it comes to reforming the pension system. The FDP is calling for the abolition of pensions at 63. This is possible without deductions if employees born before 1953 have worked for 45 years. Lindner wants to raise this limit so as not to take any workers away from the economy. The SPD in particular criticizes this and is sticking to the pension at 63.
SPD General Secretary Kevin Kühnert said in the morning magazine on ARD and ZDF: “Craftsmen, nursing staff and many more simply can’t do it anymore.” These groups of people, who are reaching their physical limits, would have their pensions reduced with the reform – and it would be assumed that that they were lazy. His suggestion to motivate those who are physically able and want to work longer hours is through collective bargaining agreements.
FDP position paper: Greens urge moderation
Pension package two is due to be passed by the traffic light coalition in May. It contains positions from both the FDP and the SDP. That’s why Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) urges moderation. He expressed his incomprehension about the debate to RTL and ntv: “I’m surprised – and the surprise comes from the fact that we actually have a solution.” His party is staying away from the dispute over the pension package.
When asked about a quick solution to the dispute, Kühnert reiterated in the morning magazine: “Everyone should now deal with the matter and publish fewer points papers. If you write down a lot of wish points in papers, then at some point you will become Sams, but you don’t do politics.”
