The number of visitors to shopping centers over the past week has fallen by 8-40% – such estimates were given by representatives of retailers and shopping centers interviewed by Izvestia. The trend, albeit not on such a scale, was confirmed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Thus, according to the calculations of the Russian Council of Shopping Centers (RSTC), the fall was about 15%. Following traffic, demand is also declining, Dmitry Moskalenko, President of RSTC, told Izvestia.
The flow of people to the shopping center began to decline after the announcement of partial mobilization, Pavel Lyulin, vice president of the Union of Shopping Centers, added to Izvestia. Already on September 27, the figure for Russia decreased by 8% compared to the same date last year. In the capital, it fell by almost 13%.
The drop in traffic is also confirmed by retail real estate brokers, such as CORE.XP. Over the past week, the flow of buyers and turnover of retailers have fallen by 10-20%, Nadezhda Tsvetkova, director of the company, head of retail space leasing, told the publication. How long this fall will be is not yet clear, she stressed.
The Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers (FRiO) has similar data: the flow of customers in shopping centers has fallen by 20% over the past week. This was told to Izvestiya by Vice-President of FRiO Sergey Mironov. Apparently, the mood of consumers has changed: they are increasingly staying at home. At the same time, traffic in business centers decreased a little less – people work in these premises plus dine in restaurants located there.
