Trade unions Railway unions are now arguing with each other – underlying a weak atmosphere and “poor work behavior”

The lawsuit relates to a labor dispute that caused the cancellation of commuter trains through a bend.

The trade union’s four member divisions, the Turku, Riihimäki, Jyväskylä and Tampere divisions, have filed a lawsuit against the association’s board.

There are a total of 24 member sections.

However, the actual subject of the dispute is the current President of the Railway Union Tero Palomäki, which the member departments have distrust of.

The background is also the work satisfaction and work atmosphere of the trade union office, which has been studied by occupational health care professionals.

The appendices to the district court’s subpoena show that the office has found “inconsistencies in the atmosphere, talking behind the back, and occasionally bad work behavior on the part of both staff and supervisors”.

It has been felt that “clear leadership is lacking”.

During the investigation, the staff of the office was reduced from seven to two, one of whom was Palomäki.

Railway industry the Union’s interests have also aroused dissatisfaction in the membership. Over the past couple of years, the trade union has set up, among other things, railway competition projects.

VR Lähiliikenne won the tender for Helsinki Region Transport (HSL), but the bid was lower than before, which has led to efficiency measures that are not accepted by the employees.

As a result, drivers who stay home due to sudden illnesses are not replaced by co-workers. The majority of employees believe that the workload has increased so much due to the employer’s new interpretations of collective agreements that there is no desire for flexibility.

To the chairman dissatisfied member sections wanted Palomäki’s trust to be voted on at the 2020 Representative Council meeting.

To this end, they sent a letter to the Union Government, enclosing, inter alia, a recent job vacancy report and material on the Presidency’s misconduct.

However, the government sent an amended proposal to the House of Representatives. In accordance with the will of the majority of the board, the proposal was that the chairman will not be voted on until 2023, when a new board will be elected for the organization. No attachments were sent to the representatives.

To the fire hill dissatisfied member departments sent the appendix independently. The government then stated that this had happened and sent the annexes to the House of Representatives.

The Representative Council met in the autumn of 2020, and the majority of the representatives were in favor of the majority of the Board, ie it was not decided to vote for the Chairman until 2023.

Tero Palomäki interprets that he has gained confidence in the meeting of the Representative Council. He does not want to comment on the indictment before the district court hearing.

A court ruling is expected next week.

The Railway Union was established three years ago when the Union of Locomotives and the Union of Railway Officials merged.
