Given its popularity, it is common to think that Dragon Ball is the only work on which the legendary Akira Toriyama worked. The reality is that his work transcends decades and platforms. After the success of Goku’s adventures, its creator did a lot in video games and gave us Shu, the protagonist of Blue Dragonwhich has just returned with a very special sketch done by Toyotaro.
Blue Dragon was a game developed by Mistwalker, a studio formed by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, which was exclusive to the Xbox 360. This video game was not a bestseller, but is remembered for being one of several attempts by Xbox to try to penetrate the Japanese market.
Toyotaro took on the task of making his version of Shu from Blue Dragon. He gives it his own style – which can be greatly appreciated in the Dragon Ball Super manga. His lines are very well done, the handling of shadows replicates that of Toriyama.
In some way, we not only pay tribute to the man who gave us Sand Land, Dr. Slump, Kajika and Dragon Ball, we also remember a video game that is perhaps certainly underrated.

Will Toyotaaro continue Akira Toriyama’s legacy in Dragon Ball Super?
At the moment the Dragon Ball Super manga is in a kind of hiatus that crossed – by mere chance – with the death of Akira Toriyama. Yes, we had a self-concluding moment that Toyotaro drew, but some kind of detail did not come out that would tell us when the story would return.
Let’s not lose sight of the possibility that there was a plan to continue the story of Dragon Ball Super, the point is that with the death of the author, surely many ideas were left floating without a real direction. Now it only remains for the artist to see how the ideas could be executed.
Do you think Akira Toriyama’s work is finished? Will Toyotaaro be able to continue with Dragon Ball Super? Follow the conversation through our Discord and don’t miss our news at Google news.
