The businessman Irving Salcedofounder and CEO of the Total Foods Sinaloa manufacturing plant has managed to manufacture products and export them to countries around the world such as United States, Canada, Israel and South Koreawith a production of around 100 tons per month.
Origin
Total Foods was formally born in 2022 thanks to the first brand created by Irving Salcedo in 2018, a mango sauce with chili called ‘La Sombreruda’ and which, due to production, required finding a maquiladora. After managing to export his product to the United States with the support of a business partner in San Diego, Irving decided that due to the need to continue creating his product, he would take another leap in his business career: create your own food manufacturing plant to produce their sauce, but also the products of all those entrepreneurs and businessmen who needed to industrialize their products.
“My product did not have the production that other maquila companies required to process it, so I decided that my maquila would welcome companies and projects of all sizes,” says Salcedo.
Accelerated growth
The Sinaloa businessman admits that he has experienced accelerated growth thanks above all to the search for connections and relationships with institutions, both governmental and business.
“We usually work on around five projects a month, as we handle large production quantities and we treat each product with great care. We organize ourselves with the companies and thus we have an itinerary of what we have to do, how long the project will take and how much has to be produced monthly during the duration of the contract. We currently have a project where we manufacture around 600,000 pieces of finished product per month. It is a project that has been in development for around a year,” adds the businessman.
Services
The Total Foods services They range from the creation of the concept, brand, logo, labels and the entire process involved in creating a product to its marketing and export.
“We develop the companies’ projects, we advise them throughout the process to achieve their recipe, industrialize it, and even package it so that they can only dedicate themselves to marketing it,” adds Salcedo Rojo.
In addition, Total Foods It also supports its clients in obtaining the elements to make their products and offers them quality supplies, as well as guidance to ensure that the products are marketed nationally and internationally, since it supports the brands with the legal process to obtain the permits required in each country.
Scope
“We have exported several products to the United States and have supported our clients with the FDA process. We have also managed to export to Canada, South Korea, and even Hong Kong, and before the political conflicts we had a project for Israel,” adds Irving Salcedo about the reach that he and his company have achieved internationally.
Regarding their products, he also mentions that there are clients who occasionally ask for batches to take with them abroad, “we even have a client who we know is going to ask us for her batch every six months and she takes it to Switzerland,” adds the member of the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra).
Keys to success
For the 34-year-old entrepreneur, the key has been above all the creative area and personal adaptation.
“Our products are like a tailor-made suit, we analyze the needs of our clients together and we can support entrepreneurs as well as large companies in various fields, from the production of sauces, jams, tomato paste, soy sauce to nuts, where we have even supported the process of purchasing raw materials and set up a plant to produce what you need,” said the awarded by Canacintra.
The founder of the company also mentioned that a partner is essential to achieving business success. “I realized that to be successful you need a good partner. My wife Selene has been a key piece in achieving the success I have today,” added Salcedo.
For Irving part of the success What they have achieved is also due to the fact that they have managed to create a very efficient partnership with their supply chain, as well as with their clients, a talent for product development and high quality parameters.
On the other hand, for the Sinaloa native, becoming known has been due above all to a strategy of relationships.
“What has worked for us has been our relationships, going through business chambers, getting involved in the consulates of other countries, showing ourselves at different expos. In February we had a work meeting and we had eight projects in the works and of those eight projects, all of them sought us out because they had heard about our work through these media,” added Salcedo Rojas.
Project development
Irving Salcedo considers that developing other people’s projects entrepreneurs and businessmen It is of great importance to boost the state’s economy, as well as to create a better business culture. This process, he says, can generally take from two months onwards, since there are projects that come as an idea and they guide the entire process.
“There are people who want to develop industrially but do not have their recipe 100% ready and we support them to find the exact measurements so they can produce at an industrial level, we check which suppliers they need, we show them our catalogue to see which element works best for them, we also have external consultants to make the best decisions about the most convenient packaging and distribution depending on the product,” adds the general director of Total Foods.
Inputs and costs
For Total Foods, their inputs are of vital importance, which is why they try to maintain a stable relationship with suppliers that manage quality.
“We currently have around 15 suppliers from different parts of the country, from Baja California, Sonora, Jalisco, Mexico City and Nuevo Leon, but some of these suppliers also work in Puebla or import part of the machinery they use from other countries. We prioritize quality, so we do not care if our inputs are not the most economical, we seek not to compromise quality,” says the businessman.
On the other hand, the seed capital to be able to have its production plant in the city of Costa Rica, was an investment of 1,800,000 pesos. “To be able to establish the plant we had to invest around 1,800,000 pesos, however we have continued to invest constantly during the process to improve the processes and the machinery,” added Irving.
