The victory of the world title in the ‘Zona Cesarini’ by Max Verstappen at the Abu Dhabi GP overshadowed the excellent performance of Yuki Tsunoda, finished 4th with his AlphaTauri. Thanks to this result at the foot of the podium, the Japanese driver thus obtained his best seasonal result in his debut year in F1. A championship, however, characterized by ups and downs, as well as moments of great nervousness externalized by the young Japanese during some races, especially in the radio team.
Very often the author of vulgar and angry messages in direct communications with his team, Tsunoda has recently also apologized to the microphones of formula1.com, expressing his displeasure for the far from calm reactions shown during the championship. In this regard, the AlphaTauri team principal also intervened, Franz Tost. The Austrian manager commented on the attitude of his driver, partially defending the reasons that push the 21-year-old to react so excitedly: “You can tell him: ‘Please don’t say this, it’s not good for your image, it’s not good for the team, rest assured’ – he said in a statement reported by racingnews365.com – at that point he closes the visor, sits in the car, and gets angry about a problem dictated by any reason. But people have to understand that this is an F1 car and there has to be a certain aggression from the drivers, who don’t just have to stay on the track. They must have this adrenaline, otherwise they could not show this performance ”.
In conclusion, Tost himself wanted to provide his driver with advice regarding audio messages, in order to preserve his image not only in Formula 1, but also and above all at home: “I’ll ask him not to – he added – can scream alone and not turn on the radio; it hurts him and the team. His way of speaking is not very Japanese. Moreover, gives him bad publicity in Japan, and I’m not sure if he knows the meaning of what he says ”.
