Torrelavega will send more than 60 tons of food, hygiene products, etc., collected by different groups, citizens and the City Council itself to the areas affected by DANA.in this case through the Collection points enabled on Sunday and today Monday in Plaza de La Llama and La Lechera. This has been reported by the Councilor for Security, Pedro Pérez Noriegawho explained that part of this material has already been sent to Valencia in trucks chartered by UGAM-COAG, and the rest will be done through the Cantabria Food Bank.
Regarding continuing to collect material for those affected by DANA, Pérez Noriega has indicated that since the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) It has been reported that, Given the logistics and storage problems that have been experienced by those responsible for distribution, it is more advisable to send aid through financial donations to organizations that work in the affected areas.and that for this reason, “for the moment, no more collection points will be enabled.”
The councilor has highlighted the City Council’s and the city’s willingness to “collaborate” with those affected by this tragedy, both with human and material means. “Torrelavega, the City Council is with those affected and will continue like this,” he stated. As an example of this collaboration, it has been referred to to the team of volunteer firefighters that has been in Paiporta since Sunday carrying out bailing work with the equipment and extraction pumps that they have brought from the Torrelavega Fire Station. And he has announced that another team is already prepared to take over and, in this way, be able to continue helping.
Pérez Noriega recalled that the City Council is working in coordination with the Federation of Municipalities (FEMP), Government of Cantabria and Government Delegation. Finally, he had words of gratitude and recognition to all the citizens, entities and groups of the municipality who are helping those affected by DANA and who, once again, have responded massively. As well as towards the Municipal Civil Protection Service, the Civil Protection volunteers, the Regional Firefighters Park and the numerous volunteers who are participating.
