Images show devastation in Greenfield, Iowa; government declares emergency
The city of Greenfield, Iowa, in the United States, was hit by a tornado on Tuesday (May 21, 2024). According to local authorities, several people died and were injured. The number of victims, however, was not reported until the publication of this text.
Greenfield is a small town, with about 2,000 inhabitants. It is located in the center of the State of Iowa, approximately 97 km from the capital, Des Moines.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds declared a state of emergency in 15 counties. They are: Adair, Adams, Cass, Clay, Hardin, Harrison, Jasper, Kossuth, Marshall, Montgomery, Page, Palo Alto, Pottawattamie, Tama and Warren.
“The governor’s proclamation allows state resources to be used to respond to and recover from the effects of severe weather”, in addition to activating subsidy and civil defense programs, announced in statement.
